BOUTIQUE

by Ryan Bruce Levey/RBL Films

Synopsis

BOUTIQUE chronicles the recent burgeoning Blu-ray collectible renaissance and the rising number of specialty distribution labels worldwide, creating an increased demand for long-lost cinema obscurities to classic cinematic landmarks. In addition, these companies endeavor to rescue and restore films, bringing back to the forefront underappreciated artists and overlooked and forgotten works to the masses.

Featuring interviews with filmmakers and the stars of the films, alongside the company representatives lovingly rescuing, restoring, and releasing the work, plus those historians who gloriously provide commentary tracks and extras packaged with the releases, as well as fans, collectors, and industry experts. BOUTIQUE is a joyous documentary love letter to cinephilia.

Director Statement

Inspired by my own blu-ray collection, I decided to explore the boom in the collectible media market. Like vinyl for music fans, blu-ray has seen a resurgence, with cinephiles being drawn to an explosion of "boutique" labels like Vinegar Syndrome, Arrow, and Severin, plus the originals like Criterion and Something Weird Video, who are part of a movement rescuing and restoring cinema classics and obscurities from being lost to time.

The releases are lovingly restored and full of brilliant extras, including expert, cast, and filmmaker commentaries, and encased in gorgeous packaging, much of them limited editions. BOUTIQUE is a love letter to cinephilia and shines a critical light on the vital process of protecting films for future generations and giving voice to BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and Women filmmakers.

Our Mission

After the success of OUT IN THE RING on the festival circuit, Cheryl Staurulakis, Brad Webb, and Ry Levey set out to create a line of documentary films that focus on uncovering hidden histories and exploring cultures at the intersection of art and social justice, but at a price point between 100K and 200K USD. Having delivered OUT IN THE RING to the World with top-tier sound, editing, and color, we wanted to build a pipeline to provide quality doc content that could eliminate the need to wait for government financing and could go into production with the guaranteed support of Ms. Staurulakis's production company ORAMA FILMWORKS.

A dedicated team, with award- winning Ry Levey at the directing/producing helm, alongside award-winning editor Brad Webb, known for his work on doc projects and campaigns for THE HOBBIT TRILOGY, GET OUT, NBC/UNIVERSAL, and our super- talented skeleton crew of sound, camera, composers, and mixers. We create a budget and set about to deliver it under that, never skimping on quality and completing projects in a 12-18 month period, but on par with the best docs in the World. Our team is currently seeking private equity investment (Cash or relevant services) and World sales, distribution, and broadcast partners.
